The Hair Lair is a private, one stylist hair salon that utilizes eco-friendly   products in my services. I offer organic and PPD free* hair color brands   that are either low or no ammonia, contain no formaldehyde and use    naturally derived substitutes for the bad chemicals commonly found in   many traditional salon color services.  The overwhelming chemical fumes   found in most salons is NOT an issue at The Hair Lair.       I am an Onesta Certified Green Salon, recognized for my efforts to   minimize waste, recycle, and use natural, vegan and paraben-free product lines.    I have also partnered up with Matter of Trust to recycle hair clippings that can be used to help the environment.       For more information on the different color lines I use, please click here.   NO CALLS, NO DOUBLES WHILE WORKING ON CLIENTS Because I am in a private room setting, there is no receptionist to answer the phone.  So that I can provide exceptional services to my customers, I do not take phone calls while I am with my clients.  I also do not double schedule appointments, taking only one person at a time.  By giving each customer my undivided attention while they are in my chair, my clients enjoy a more pleasant and relaxing salon experience and it keeps me on time for clients when they arrive for their appointments.  Unlike many other salons that overbook their stylists and keep you waiting long after your appointment time, I stay on schedule so that your time isn't wasted waiting for me to fit you in.    *PPD free hair color can still cause allergic reactions in those with known PPD allergies.  A patch test will be required at least a week before getting a hair color service.       Hair Lair Awards & Honors:      Certified Organic Haircolorist     Voted Best Hair Color 3rd Place Winner 2009 & 2010 Top 5 Winner 2008  10News.com A-List        Onesta Certified Green Salon      Professional Beauty Association              In need of waxing and skin care treatments?       The Hair Lair is also the home of Skin Care by Adrienne.     For information on her products and services, please click here.

Who am I? Andrea Shcolnik I am an Organic Salon System Certified Haircolorist, former Wella Salon Hair Color Educator, and a hair color specialist who has been doing hair for over 20 years.     Background: I have always wanted to help people feel better about themselves which is why I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.  I started working at a domestic violence shelter and quickly realized that having people have a positive image about themselves required a change not only on the inside, but outside too.  I wanted to be able to help people do both and since I had always had a flair for hair, I decided a career in the beauty industry would be the best of both worlds (aren't hair stylists Psychologists anyways?).    I have always loved everything about the beauty world from hair to skin and makeup, but my favorite by far was always being able to change my own hair color.  My passion for everchanging hair color led me to pursue a corporate career as a hair color educator with the Wella Corporation.  For over 6 years, I worked closely with some of the world's top colorists at regional shows and hair events.  After awhile I missed working in the salons where trends were being created every day so I decided to return to work behind the chair. Why I went "green":  I have worked with many collegues who have become too sensitive to all the fumes and chemicals hair stylists are exposed to on a daily basis.  Many of them have had to quit working as a result of skin irritations that could not be cured.  Although I personally used products that didn't have the overpowering smells and chemicals, I was surrounded by others who did.  I was constantly getting colds, sinus infections, and skin rashes from breathing in and working around all those harmful fumes and chemicals.  I decided getting sick from doing what I loved was NOT what I wanted.  I opened The Hair Lair Salon in May 2007 and slowly evolved into using products to safeguard not only my health, but the health of my clients and the environment.   For more information on the "bad" stuff in your hair care products, please feel free to download the document below (provided by Onesta and Neuma).
